Spanish Cities for the Climate Network
Introduction
The activity of this network is designed to promote sustainable development policies and to impulse local policies for fighting the climate change which help reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and to comply with the Kyoto Protocol.
Description
The actions planned for the first phase of the network cover aspects such as municipal regulations on solar heating energy, financial and taxation measures to favour the use of renewable energy and less-polluting means of urban transport, energy efficiency and sustainability measures and criteria, to favour the use of renewable energy, traffic monitoring and management, the promotion of the use of efficient home appliances for the good use of energy in homes, awareness campaigns on the efficient use of energy, land for planting trees and bushes to increase green areas and leisure areas in cities, etc.
Participants
The Spanish Cities for the Climate Network is a section of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) covering towns and cities committed to sustainable development and the protection of the climate.

Objectives
The network’s bases for action are energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy, bio-climatic architecture and sustainable town planning. The network promotes the involvement of local authorities in environmental management, making compatible the need to tackle global problems beyond the municipal area from the regulatory point of view.
