Polycentric Metropolitan Europe
Introduction
The purpose of this project is to present conclusions of the first phase of the PolyMETREXplus project.
Description
PolyMETREXplus is a project under the Interreg IIIC programme of the European Commission that seeks to contribute a metropolitan dimension to the objective of the European Spatial Planning Development Perspective (ESDP) for the harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of the European space and a metropolitan response to the three key strategic policy options of Global Integration Zones (GIZ), Polycentricity and Complementarity.
Background information
The approved PolyMETREXplus application indicated that PolyMETREXplus will help to realise the objective of Interreg IIIC, to improve the effectiveness of policies and instruments for regional development and cohesion, by contributing to the Territorial Cohesion sought by the draft European Convention and the balanced and sustainable development of Europe sought by the ESDP (European Spatial Development Perspective).
EU involvement
PolyMETREXplus is a project under the METREX network and the Interreg IIIC programme of the European Commission.
Conclusions
The result will be a metropolitan response to the three key policy options, (Global Integration Zones (GIZ), Polycentricity and Complementarity) in the ESDP (Framework/Action Plan) from which to develop and progress a programme of representative networking activities on an inter-regional basis (RINA's/Benchmark). The impact will be to initiate and sustain effective measures towards a polycentric metropolitan Europe.
