How can the importance of green spaces in urban areas be emphasised?

Green space is important for quality housing, health, recreation and a cleaner environment. It is a valuable investment; the costs of planting, administration and maintenance are relatively low compared to their social benefits. With this in mind, various organisations, including Vereniging Stadswerk Nederland (Dutch Urban Planning Association) and the Vereniging voor Hoveniers en Groenvoorzieners (Association for Gardeners and Landscapers) have built the website 'De Groene Stad' (The Green City), which includes current articles, research results and other information on the social and economic value of green spaces. The website is intended as a tool for governments and professionals active in the fields of urban planning and development.

The website gives access to a number of articles and opinions that have been published on the social, ecological or economic importance of green spaces. The information has been divided into four main themes: Living, Working, Health and Recreation.

The purpose of the project is to create interest for the correct applications of green space among governments, organisations and companies that are professionally involved in planning and developing urban areas:
