Brazil in the XXI century: new planning and the City Statute
Introduction
This edition of the magazine CIUDAD y TERRITORIO Estudios Territoriales groups together eight essays documenting Brazil’s current reality after the urban and territorial transformations occurring in the last few years. As its contents show, the presence of renowned specialists and technicians in municipal and state institutions and the coming together of all forces of the civil society in national working teams have raised hopes that measures solving to a great extent the problems affecting the majority of the Brazilian population will be firmed up.
The City Statute first and then the creation of the Cities Ministry were the result of a historic demand from popular urban movements.
Description
In its research section the magazine groups together three texts documenting the process of urbanisation in Brazil, marked by the vertiginous increase in population. Another two works focus on the environmental problems existing in large metropolitan areas, and which compromise the possibility of sustainable urban development, one of which deals specifically with the case of the Sao Paulo metropolis. Three further works deal with the requirement of the master plan in relation to average sized municipalities and another deals with the implementation of planning policy in Sao Paulo. These texts will be accompanied by the regular property sections, correspondence, documentation and books and reviews, which will include accumulated indices of magazines published during 2005.
