GRANDS TRAVAUX
Introduction
GRANDS TRAVAUX is a European network of Cities dealing with the challenging issue of innovative communication strategies for a more citizen-friendly impact and acceptability during large urban transformations. (Urban transformations do very often not have a citizen-friendly impact and acceptability.)
Description
The mission of the project is to develop Communication strategies and Information tools dedicated to the issues of urban development, in order to:
  • Raise the proximity for the citizens towards the decision-making process;
  • Effectively communicate to the citizens the long term advantages of the urban development;
  • Underline the importance of the urban modernisation as opportunities for the future growth of the city and competitiveness;
  • Address the urban marketing as an opportunity for all the categories of citizens (e.g. economic and social partners);
  • Increase citizens’ awareness towards the dynamism of the urban development.
Participants
9 partners from 7 European countries are participating in the project: Florence and Rome (Italy), Leipzig (Germany), Limassol (Cyprus), Tallinn (Estonia), Valencia (Spain), Warszawa (Poland), the Development Agency of Athens (Greece) and ANCI (Italian National Association of Municipalities), that is the leading partner.
Network lead
ANCI – the National Association of Italian Municipalities - is the Leading Partner of Grands Travaux. ANCI, which was founded in 1901 in Parma, represents almost 7,000 Italian Municipalities, that is more than 98 % of Italian population.
IDEALI, ‘European Identity for the Italian Local Autonomies’ is the European office of ANCI, based in Brussels, which represents to the EU Institutions the entire system of the Italian Local Authorities, thanks to the other institutional IDEALI partners . IDEALI is the office of ANCI responsible for the GT Project management and the coordination of the Pilot Committee, as well as for the dissemination activities related to Grands Travaux.
Objectives
GRANDS TRAVAUX aims at changing the actual schemes of institutional communication concerning complex urban work, towards a new and integrated communication approach (quantitative; qualitative; short, medium and long-term information).
Products
The assessment of the existing knowledge and “best practises” and analysis of case studies, all related to institutional communication and urban transformation issues.
The innovation and update of the methods in communication fields
  • Definition of the state-of-the-art and “best practises” by each city partner
  • Draft of recommendations and guidelines based on the previous research studies.
  • Summarisation of these best practices in a Handbook, focused on new approaches in this field
  • Development of pilot communication plans based on these recommendations and guidelines
  • Implementation of the pilot communication plans and web sites
  • Monitoring of the plans, benchmarking of the different cities’ experiences and final recommendations for a specific Grand Travaux communication tool.
EU involvement
GRANDS TRAVAUX is co-financed by Interreg III C.
