Sureuro: Refurbishment of Post War Housing Areas
Introduction
How to find sustainable and human friendly strategies to solve the big problems in post war housing areas over the coming 25 years?
Description
This research provides management tools for sustainable and consumer oriented refurbishment of post war housing areas in Europe. It was developed in 2000-2004 by an international consortium of 29 partners from 9 European countries.
Conclusions
  • European housing organisations face similar challenges. 170 million people in Europe are living in mass housing areas under non-sustainable and non-user-friendly circumstances. It is a logical step for housing organisations to see how other bodies in the same field deal with similar problems.
  • Sustainable and consumer oriented transformation of the post war housing stock must be a high priority for European housing organisations.
  • Sureuro has developed a series of strategic tools which can be helpful in this transformation process.
  • Using a management game to disseminate and implement the knowledge developed has proved very effective.
  • Sustainable transformation of post war areas can be highly profitable for the housing owners.
