The PURE Check Guidebook
Introduction
PURE North Sea is a EU project, which started in 2002 and lasted for four years. Led by the Province of Groningen, partners from England, Sweden and the Netherlands set up and realised a great number of projects in those four years.
Description
The objective of this guidebook is to summarise and spread the benefits of the PURE Check tool, which has been designed to promote transnational learning and to realise high quality plans and projects. All based on a system of peer review. Professionals from four partner cities in three countries have contributed their expert knowledge to PURE via a series of transnational meetings and exchange visits. The process of development of the PURE Check tool has promoted an extensive debate among the participants regarding the key questions that the PURE project has sought to address. During the transnational meetings, PURE Check has assisted in the process of mutual learning and in the process of feeding a wide range of expertise into project initiatives, plans, visions and strategies.
EU involvement
The project is partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Conclusions
The process of working on the system – both the procedural aspects and the substantive issues covered by the system - has led the PURE project towards a process of understanding what questions to ask. The outcome has been to deliver better quality projects, plans and strategies in terms of their physical, social and economic conditions, for the benefit of those who live and work in urban fringe zones.
