The concrete dragon: China's urban revolution and what it means for the world
Introduction
China is booming, and so are its cities. In only a few decades, the country has erected more high-rise buildings, more housing units and more highways than any other nation. "China's urban revolution is off the charts of Western or even global experience ", Thomas J. Campanella states. His book "The Concrete Dragon ", provides an in-depth analysis of the multiple dimensions of China's changing urban landscape. It explores the benefits of the country's urban age, but also looks at its major costs: many families have been displaced, architectural and cultural heritage has been sacrificed and the gap between the haves and have-nots is growing wider.
Description
'The Concrete Dragon' consists of nine chapters in which the various dimensions of China's urban revolution are illustrated.
1. Thunder from the South
