Greater London Authority - powers and responsibilities for the Mayor and Assembly - UK
Introduction
A policy statement which sets out the final package of proposals for additional powers and responsibilities to the Greater London Authority (GLA) – the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
Description
Following a consultation on the options and proposals for additional powers and responsibilities that the GLA could assume in order to improve the strategic delivery of public services, this document looks in detail at the United Kingdom government’s final proposals.
Outlines the consultation options, responses and the government’s final proposals in relation to a number of key areas:
  • housing;
  • learning and skills;
  • planning;
  • waste;
  • culture, media and sport;
  • health;
  • climate change and energy;
  • water;
  • and European Structural Funds.
Also sets out the consultation options, responses and final proposals in relation to functional bodies, including Transport for London (TfL), the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA), as well as for section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
