European Network for Workplace Health Promotion, ENWHP

Introduction
The ENWHP promotes good practice in workplace health promotion and advocates the adoption of such practice in all European workplaces.
Description
Operating in a highly competitive business environment and at a time of increasing pressure on the labour market, many employers in Europe are aware of the need to implement measures to improve productivity and efficiency and at the same time enhance the working environment and culture. Workplace health promotion (WHP) has been shown to make a major contribution to the achievement of these outcomes.
The Network was formally established in 1996, and since this time it has been at the leading edge of developments in European workplace health promotion. By means of various joint initiatives, it developed good practice criteria for WHP for a variety of types of organizations and established infrastructures for WHP in the Member States. Through these national forums and networks ENWHP facilitates the cross-border exchange of information and the dissemination of good workplace practice.
Participants
The principles of Partnership
Partner organizations are invited to attend the part of the ENWHP Business Meetings. This means that they have full access to the work of the Network, the information it collects and the initiatives it develops. However, partners are unable to participate in the decision making process and do not receive EU funding to support their ENWHP activities.
There are two types of partnership:
1) Full partnership - offered to supranational and international organizations with an interest in and commitment to workplace health:
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions
  • European Agency for Safety and Health at Work in Bilbao
  • as a permanent partner, the European Commission (DG Sanco)
2) The following national networks:
  • Austrian Network for Workplace Health Promotion
  • Bulgarian Forum "Healthy and Safe Workplaces" (BF"HSW")
  • Czech Forum of Health Promoting Organizations
  • National WHP Forum of Finland
  • Hellenic Workplace Health Promotion Forum (HWHPF)

Objectives
Vision & Mission: "Healthy Employees in Healthy Organisations"
"We are a network of national occupational health and safety institutes and public health institutions committed to developing and promoting good workplace health practice, which in turn contributes to sustainable economic and social development in Europe."
The European Network for Workplace Health Promotion is an informal network of national occupational health and safety institutes, public health, health promotion and statutory social insurance institutions. It aims through the joint efforts of all its members and partners to contribute to improving workplace health and wellbeing and reduce the impact of work related ill health on the European workforce.
Products
National Forums: Platforms for exchange and co-operation in European Workplace Health Promotion
A key element in ENWHP's strategy is the establishment of national networks, forums and similar groups in the field of workplace health promotion and building links between them. In a two-year project, which was concluded in 2004, platforms for exchange and co-operation have successfully been established in nearly all countries, although their working methods are quite different. This way a Pan-European network has been created, bringing together and integrating interested protagonists and stakeholders on all levels. The implementation of WHP infrastructures helps to deepen the transfer of knowledge throughout Europe and will spur the further dissemination of WHP in Europe.
