Commission DG Regio Introduction The Extremaduran Association for the East-West Cooperation (AECEO) is
organizing the First European Municipalities Meeting in Cáceres for the 28th,
29th, 30th of September, 2008. For this event, AECEO will be supported by the
Regional Government of Extremadura, the County Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz,
the Extremaduran Association of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMPEX), the Town
Hall of Cáceres and the European Academy of Yuste Foundation.
Description
In this European Municipalities Meeting they will meet high authorities and
representatives of more than 100 municipalities from the 27 states belonging to
the E.U. and it will promote the knowledge and debate about horizontal and
sectorial topics of general interest in the current European territorial and
municipal situation.
Among these topics, they will be discussed the municipal cooperation in the
Europe of the 21st Century, municipal Governing Patterns in Europe regarding to
the proximity to the citizens, the future of the municipal services and their
different management patterns, municipalities and environment, and local
development and employment.
AECEO was founded in 2003 in view of the necessity to face up to the current
European reality that, even offering unquestionable opportunities in all areas,
it however raises many divergences at a political, social, economic and
institutional level. In this context, several public and private entities from
Extremadura decided to put together in order to join forces and constitute
AECEO.
The objectives of AECEO are promoting the collaboration in economic, social
and institutional areas of public and private entities from Extremadura with
other similar institutions from Central and East of Europe, becoming the
negotiator of the public administrations of Extremadura in order to warranty the
economic, social and democratic promotion of the region in Europe, and
contributing to the economic and social development of Extremadura, through the
reciprocal cooperation with the countries of recent incorporation of the
European Union.
