Speciality of Parking in Budapest

Introduction
It is predictable that the number of paid parking places will be doubled very soon in Budapest. P+R programme laid down in the Framework of Building Regulation of Budapest (FSzKT) are considered a bit overestimated, but tendencies are given. Some extra 1000-1200 paid parking places built with good contact to metro stations would be enough to reach a level of parking exists in Vienna.
Number of parking places per 1000 inhabitant are lower at the Buda side compared to Pest. Parking market therefore would develop more at Buda in the close future.
Description
First part of this paper gives an analysis of parking market in Vienna and a comparison with the situation in Budapest. Data collection from 16 P+R parking places are the basis of estimation on needs.
1.4 parking places in P+R system are recently for 1000 residents in Budapest, and at least 2.0 is needed.
According to extensions of the metro lines, recently calculations show good financial possibilities in building new multi storey car parks.
The paper gives an overview of location of planned parking lots, analysing efficiency of different types of parking solutions in Budapest.
Conclusions
Recent situation of parking in Budapest made extension of the number of P+R parking more important. Buda part of the city needs more development on multi storey car parking, Pest has possibilities to build P+R on empty sites near to metro lines. Effective demand for paid controlled parking is on Buda side, so development of parking system could be based on private investments.
