The research includes the following issues: general judgement of the architectural image of Budapest, consideration with other European cities, image of the certain quarters, judgement of the different styles, actual questions: green areas, housing estates, slumming inner parts, sky rises, shopping centres and hypermarkets, public buildings etc.

Budapest can be proud of its relatively uniform eclectic city center, but recently needs new formes in architect. Residents of Budapest respect traditions, and are a bit nervous seeing anything new… We have to know well the expectations when planning developments and renewals for Budapest.

In the first phase two focus-group talkings were organised for 8-8 participants, one for the age of 18-29, and one for the age of 30-50. In the second phase the tested question list was used for 500 phone interviews: the rate of age-, income-, and education groups were based on the statistics of the KSH (Központi Statisztikai Hivatal, Central Office of Statistics).

The ones who have been abroad appreciate more Budapest. Most liked: Castle Hill and City center. Least liked: VII. And VIII. District and the housing estates. The image is higher in Buda green areas and at Zugló (relatively green area in Pest side). Baroque and eclectic style is respected and acknowledged; while buildings built in the age of 1950-1970 are not liked. The Hattyú-Ház (Swan-House)and the ING Center and the East-West Center were relatively liked among the offices, at cultural establishments the Opera House, the National Theatre and The Vígszínház were liked. Considering shopping centres: the Central Market Hall at Vámház tér was highly appreciated, which is a renewed old market hall, and considering the hotels the Gellért was the most liked, which is also a historical building.
