Cities and their microregions

Introduction
The study analyses the differences between microregions of cities and towns focusing on public services and functions in territorial development. The paper gives recommendations for a different regulation of these activities.
Description
Definite distinctions should be taken between microregions of cities and towns in the field of public services and territorial development.
Microregions of cities of county rank are examined (attraction, agglomeration, microregional functions) emphasising that there are differences between those urban regions as well (there are both towns without real agglomeration, and towns aspiring for regional centre functions)
Conclusions
Cities and surrounding urban areas examined in this research are
  • agglomerations or areas in the process of agglomeration
  • centres of their counties (majority)
  • high concentration of population, economy, value and wealth
  • centres of attraction at microregional, regional and national level
  • central places of territorial development
  • places of concentrations of basic, middle and high level supply systems and public services
  • centres of deconcentrated state and local services
