Nominations for Budapest 2006 - 2010

Introduction
Budapest is called the “Queen of Danube”. The city has a unique cityscape, historical and cultural traditions, rapidly growing economy. Nevertheless distinguished inherited makings of the capitol, and the huge capital inflow the city does not develop for whole satisfactory of all the citizens. New cultural institutions were established, streets became more human in last years. More families – mostly with children – escapes from the city hoping better quality of life.
Enriching the quality of the environment of the capitol is very much needed, firstly because of the physical and spiritual development of the citizens, and more capital is expected by that arrangements.
Description
Nominations are as follows:
1. Children-friendly city
Main idea of this document’s nominations is that all children feel well in the city. The reason why it is so important is the concept of having a city in which all the children feel well means that everyone feels well. Expectations of the citizens are having clear, safe city, renewal of the natural and built environment.
2. Active participation of the society in decision making
It is necessary to involve citizens into planning. Making an end of decision making above citizens head is more than needed.
3. Restraint of segregation
For a short term objective guarantee of affordable housing is important. For long term aim modernization of the whole building stock is necessary.
4. Protection of commons and capital of the society
Restraint of expansion of settlements is needed. Protection and careful development of natural green areas, and development of the built environment based on the built heritage is necessary.
5. Sustainable transport policy
Development of the quality of public transport, enrichment of the infrastructure for pedestrian and bicyclist traffic are in the focus of the transport policy of Budapest Agglomeration.
