Programme for environmental protection in the city of Miskolc - HU

Introduction

This document contains the environment-protection program for the city of Miskolc between 2005-2011.

Description

The purpose of this document is to reveal the environmental problems of Miskolc, and the possible solutions for the problems, taking into consideration of the local natural and environmental facilities, and the borders stated by the local government and authorities.

The elaborated program wants to achieve this with the validation of the sustainable development’s aims. The primary purpose of the program is reducing the city’s environmental strains,and contribute to the mitigation of environmental problems and the improvement of life quality.

In the interests of these aims, it wants to improve in the points listed below:

Ensuring the environmental conditions of human health and life-quality;
Protecting the values of nature, culture and landscape;
Grounding the change of approach among residents and decision-makers;
Developing and broadcasting the knowledge related to the state of local environment;
Developing effective information-flow;
Grounding the sustainable development of the city.

In the interest of these the authors of the document highlights the focus areas of the program and the mid- and long-term aims and programs in the following points:

Strengthen environmental consciousness
Settlement structure and territory use
Air protecting
Water protecting (below and above surface)
Land protection
Built environment protection
Environment-health care
Nature- and landscape protection
Waste-management
Environmental safety
Power supply management
Noise- and vibration protection

The program is a quite good example of grounding and developing the environmental protection programs in the city.
