Introduction

The research report contains the result of the survey in 2005 among the population about the animal keeping in Budapest.

Description

This survey is a part of an overall research set, which main purpose is to recognize the Budapest living people’s opinions and customs about keeping animals in the city. This report contains the issue of the telephone survey’s 5th wave in 2005. The entire sample contains 500 attendances. The survey is about the Budapest living people’s animal keeping customs and the relationship with stockmen.

The following questions were to asked:

The stockmen’s rate in the people of Budapest
The keeping animal races by the people of Budapest
The number of the keeping cats and dogs in townhouses and in gardens
The disturbing animals
Attitudes about animals and keeping animals in the city

Conclusions

Half of the people of Budapest keep a sort of animal at home. In most cases dogs (29%), and cats (17%). The respondents are tractable with cats: they accept more cats in flats and houses. They said spontaneously that the most disturbing animals are dogs, pigeons, and cats. The people of Budapest feel the dogs’ and pigeons’ droppings very annoying. It is not surprising, that most often mentioned problem is the animals’ droppings.
