Cultureel Educatief Centrum Zuidoost

Introduction
The centre’s primary objective is vocational training for the residents of Amsterdam Zuidoost. The most important target groups are people engaged in civic integration and school dropouts.
Problem
The supply of services consists of language training and vocational training activities.
Description
A number of organisations (municipal agencies, the Amsterdam Regional Community College, and social institutions) operate together in the centre, their objective being “nobody leaves home without a job”. The centre also functions as a “home for the neighbourhood” where large-scaled events, gatherings, exhibitions, etc. can be held for the residents of this urban district.
Approach
Newcomers have appointments with four different organisations in the CEC on a single day in which the client takes his/her own file along to each appointment so that the staff does not have to keep asking the same questions.
Results
  • The provision of an integrated helpdesk and source of assistance for civic integration in this urban district.
  • Integrated “chain approach” for people engaged in civic integration.
Beneficiaries
The residents of the Zuidoost urban district are the prime beneficiaries of the services supplied by the CEC.
Resources used
The following resources were made available for the construction and furnishing of the CEC:
  • Objective 2 subsidies.
  • Municipal and urban district resources.
  • Co-financing from Amsterdam Regional Community College.
The CEC never could have been developed without these three funding sources.
