Air Pollution Levels Control Network - Ponferrada, ES

Introduction
The Air Pollution Levels Control Network takes periodical measures on air and noise pollution, ozone concentration and meteorological data.
Problem
Air Pollution Levels should be controlled to avoid unnecessary health risks.
Description
The City of Ponferrada has developed an Air Pollution Levels Control Network, which is integrated by three automatic stations which take periodical measures and transmit the data to the processing centre located at the Municipal Laboratory.
Approach
The stations collect the following data:
  • Monthly and yearly concentrations of the following indicators: SO2 (µg/m³), NO (µg/m³), NO2 (µg/m³), CO (µg/m³), and particles (µg/m³).
  • Monthly and yearly values of the noise levels.
  • Ozone concentration (monthly and yearly).
  • Meteorological data: temperature, humidity, pressure, solar radiation and direction and speed of the wind.
Results
According to the regulations, when some levels are exceeded the citizens are informed through the media, which offer advises on the way to avoid or minimise the negative effects of these situations.
