Introduction

Seville is developing several policies to improve energy management both in the City Council and the city as a whole.

Problem

Before the creation of the Energy Agency of Seville there was no model of energy management; however, there was political and social will to improve the energy situation of the city. In this way, the Agency was created to promote a model of integrated and coordinated energy management.

Description

The Energy Agency of Seville is an instrument of the Seville City Council to improve the energy management in the city. Since its creation in 1997 the Agency has implemented two basic management tools:

Ordinance for Local Energy Management.
Energy Plan of Seville, which specifies the actions that should be undertaken both in the city as well as in the City Hall itself to save energy and improve its efficiency.

Approach

The project involves actions in four different areas:

Information, training and communication to raise awareness.
Energy saving and efficiency in the residential and commercial sector, as well as in mobility.
Promotion of renewable energies.
Improvement of Municipal energy management.

Results

New habits of energy consumption between the citizens, focused on energy saving and the use of renewable sources of energy.
Reduction of CO2 emissions and other polluting gases.
Strengthening of the local energy sector, with the creation of new companies and employment.
Substantial economic saving in the energy expenses of the Seville City Hall.
