25 Years of Strategic Planning for Cities - CIUDAD y TERRITORIO Estudios Territoriales

Introduction
Since the first strategic plan was made in San Francisco, United States, twenty five years ago, strategic planning for cities has grown up and matured as a useful instrument for local governments and communities as well.
Description
During the last quarter of a century, strategic planning has experienced diverse transformations and reactions, which range from enthusiastic support to harsh criticism.
Independently to the reaction raised, strategic planning for cities seems to maintain its vitality and its usefulness to counter some of the shortages shown by contemporary urban planning and management. In brief, this process has become part of the urban planning commonwealth and it appears to work as an effective linkage between economic, social and physical planning.
