Road Safety Day 2008 - Paris, 13 October 2008
13-10-2008, Source: European Commission, DG Energy and Transport
Introduction
The second road safety day will be celebrated on 13 October 2008 and will address the subject of "Road Safety in our Cities". Indeed about two thirds of the accidents and one third of all road fatalities occur in urban areas, often affecting the most vulnerable road users.
Description
The European Union has set itself the target to halve the number of fatalities on our roads – from 54 000 to 27 000 – between 2001 and 2010. In order to raise awareness, to give visibility to best local practices and to offer an opportunity to work together for safer roads in Europe the Commission has established a European Road Safety Day.
The first European Road Safety Day on 27 April 2007 was a day intended for young people to share experiences. It focused on the impact of alcohol and drugs on driving, and training and education.
The second road safety day will be celebrated on 13 October 2008 and will address the subject of "Road Safety in our Cities". Indeed about two thirds of the accidents and one third of all road fatalities occur in urban areas, often affecting the most vulnerable road users. The main event will take place in Paris, at the "Espace Grande Arche", in the business district of La Défense.
This event is addressed to all European citizens, as everybody in Europe is concerned with road safety: there will not be too many speeches, but we will offer up-to-date information, presentations of innovative initiatives, testimonials and discussions. Coffee breaks and a buffet lunch will allow you to extend your network and exchange views with other participants.
The event can host around 600 people and is free of charge (delegate packs, coffee, buffet lunch and cocktails included). You will have to cover your own travel and accommodation expenses.
Please be aware that at the same time, the "Mondial de l'Automobile" will be taking place in Paris. Hotels will be fully booked very soon so you should make arrangements as soon as possible. For registration, please visit the conference website.
