European employers embrace single market initiatives 09-07-2007 On 28 June 2007, the Employers' Group of the European Economic and Social
Committee (EESC) met to support efforts to relaunch the Single Market. The
meeting was attended by representatives from the European Commission,
BusinessEurope, EuroCommerce and the EESC. According to the employers, there are
currently problems in which existing legislation and principles are applied.
This stops citizens and enterprises from enjoying the benefits of the internal
market.
As underlined by Mr Malosse, President of the EESC's Employers' Group, the
meeting was designed to "put together concrete ideas about what we, as
employers, are able to do in order to meet the challenge of relaunching the
Single Market, as part of European-level discussions on the review of the Single
Market. Employers were the pioneers of the Common Market: they fully intend to
continue in this role".
In concrete terms, the Employers Group proposes a road map for the completion
of the Single Market by the year 2020 involving:
