Brussels Capital Region: Prime Minister Charles Picqué looking for identity 30-09-2008 Brussels’ Capital Prime Minister Charles Picqué has launched a study into the
identity of the Brussels metropolis. The study forms the last phase of the Plan
for International Development (PID) which aims to put the Belgian capital more
prominently on the –international— map.
In October 2007, Picqué announced a series of big infrastructure projects, as
part of the PID. This development plan strives towards a prominent position for
Brussels on the world map and consists, among others, of ideas for a new “house
style” and logo,. The development of the Heizel neighbourhood is also included
in the plan. In this area, there are plans for a new congress centre, a football
stadium as well as a shopping mall.
The last phase of the PID includes a study into Brussels’ identity. On a web
log people can express their views on the city. In addition, two-thousand
citizens of the city itself, and two-thousand from other towns in Belgium will
receive a questionnaire by post, asking them to comment on the Brussels
district.
The information gathered through the surveying of citizens will be used for a
new communication strategy on Brussels’ future identity.
