Assesses what the UK manufacturing strategy has delivered and what priorities for action should be going forward.
Description
This policy paper
  • reviews the Government’s manufacturing strategy. Presents stakeholder views on how the manufacturing strategy has progressed;
  • provides an overview of the manufacturing sector since 2002;
  • sets out a number of key performance indicators monitoring the success of the sector;
  • reviews what has been achieved in relation to macroeconomic stability, investment, science and innovation, the use of best practice to raise productivity and competitiveness, developing a skilled and innovative workforce, delivering a modern infrastructure, and providing the business environment that manufacturing needs to compete globally.
  • outlines an action plan pointing the way forward in terms of future priorities; and
  • briefly reviews the state of manufacturing in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
