Delivering affordable housing

Introduction
Guidance for local authorities and other key players in the housing field to help deliver more high quality affordable housing within mixed sustainable communities by using all the tools available to them.
Description
The guidance explains that affordable housing policy is based around three themes: providing high quality homes in mixed sustainable communities for those in need; widening the opportunities for home ownership; and offering greater quality, flexibility and choice to those people who rent property. It sets out some policy objectives and then gives more detailed information about: the roles of local and national government; definition and types of affordable housing; affordable housing providers; the HomeBuy scheme; and the provision of grant and developer contributions. This guidance should be read in conjunction with Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3): Housing.
