Large Housing Estates: Developments and problems

Introduction
The paper focuses on the physical structure of estates, the demographic developments, economic developments, and socio-economic developments.
Description
The document provides a broad overview of recent developments in the United Kingdom, juxtaposing them with developments in London and subsequently in Birmingham.
Background information
RESTATE commissioned this report - report WP8
Conclusions
Poor physical condition of property on estates, combined with a systematic lack of investment has created much of the challenge for the estates. However the feelings of neglect felt by the residents have been channelled into positive action, resulting in the regeneration programmes currently being undertaken on the estates.
