Sustainable communities: homes for all - a five year plan - UK

Introduction
Describes a five year plan for the next phase in delivering the government’s Sustainable Communities Plan, specifically focusing on housing.
Description
Explains how the Government will work in partnership to deliver 1.1 million new homes in the wider South East by 2016, and invest in new jobs and infrastructure. Describes how the environment will be enhanced through new powers to limit low density development and protect the green belt and through a new Code for Sustainable Buildings.
Explains that the government will extend housing market renewal work in the North and Midlands to new areas, and pilot new approaches to encourage mixed communities in run down estates and communities. Includes proposals to help 80,000 first time buyers, in part by making better use of vacant public land to provide new housing, and driving down building costs. Provides details about a new Homebuy scheme to offer up to around 300,000 council and housing association tenants the chance to buy a stake in their home.
Introduces a new system, moveUK, designed to bring together information about jobs and homes and aimed at giving people the chance of a better quality of life in a new area. Outlines how the government will tackle homelessness by halving the use of temporary accommodation by 2010.
