Funded by SRB, The Reach Out Project is concerned with crime prevention. It covers West Yorkshire and is aimed at vulnerable young people at risk of becoming involved in crime or disengaged from their school or community.

It engages young people in their penultimate year of compulsory education (year 11) and offers a programme of personal development and extended work experience, with the additional support of a mentor within the workplace.

This document details the findings from the evaluation of Reach Out looking at lessons learnt and the level of project success in meeting its aims, strategic objectives and targets.

The evaluation was conducted to investigate whether the Reach Out Project achieved its aims, its strategic objectives and whether it succeeded in engaging with young people and the businesses community. It aimed to gauge overall success as well as value for money and fit with regional strategy.

The evaluation used a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches including stakeholder questionnaires for young people, schools, businesses and project staff and desk research into the regional and national policy context. It also made use of monitoring data held by projects.

The report sets out a range of lessons that can be drawn from the experience of delivering the Reach Out Project. The lessons relate to a number of key areas including:
