How to ensure effective partnerships

Introduction
This document sets out ten principles which help to ensure that projects delivered by partnerships have the best chance of success.
Problem
The document seeks to provide a practical guide to the principles which lie behind effective partnership working.
Description
According to this document, there are ten principles that must be in place and supported to ensure that a programme delivered by a partnership has the best chance of success.
It recommends that steps should be taken to support these principles during project delivery and provides practical pointers as to how this can be achieved.
Approach
The document draws on experiences of partnership working and existing research in this area to develop and elaborate on ten key principles that can help ensure projects delivered by partnerships have the best chance of success.
Results
The ten principles cover issues such as:
  • agreement on overall direction and outcomes,
  • developing respectful relationships,
  • building on strengths,
  • balancing power,
  • communication,
  • agreeing roles and responsibilities,
  • feedback and continuous improvement,
  • sharing in successes and efficient working.
Each principle is presented alongside a series of practical steps partnerships can take to implement the ten principles.

The guide was developed by the Strengthening the Social Economy Mainstreaming Partnership funded by the Equal Programme.
