Contains tools for use in community development introduced at at the CDF Conference, 'Integration: if not now, then when? – the community development approach'.

The Conflict Thermometer helps communities to engage in discussion around areas of conflict and begin to think about the history of conflicts, changes over time and how issues might be tackled.

The Conflict Tree builds on the engagement that has been achieved using the ‘thermometer’ and surfaces the participants’ more detailed perceptions of the conflict being discussed.

A number of tools - the ‘Conflict Thermometer’, ‘Conflict Tree’ and ‘Verification Matrix’ are used to identify areas of conflict, put them in context, and how to respond to it. The tools aim to encourage engagement and focus attention, and agree next steps for action.

The tools aim to provide opportunities for the community to present their particular perspective to another group or the authorities. This will help raise awareness of different perspectives, highlight areas of common understanding and identify shared actions and steps towards resolving conflicts.
