Introduction
This document describes techniques and tools for involving the community in the planning process in Scotland.
Description
This document provides an outline of the planning system in Scotland as well as existing infrastructure for community engagement before detailing a number of techniques and tools for involving the community in the planning process.
It provides an overview of research that has taken place in Scotland to identify various techniques that are being used to engage the public in planning processes.
Methodology
The document provides an overview of research conducted into community engagement in Scotland by:
  • the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities,
  • Scottish Executive,
  • Communities Scotland
  • and Places for People.
Conclusions
The document outlines various techniques and tools for community engagement identified in existing research - for each identified method it sets out advantages and disadvantages in its use.
