Introduction

Learning points are a series of publications designed to share the lessons learned from regenerations activities, produced by the SCR.

Problem

The learning point explores the reasons why placemaking might fail:

Lack of Government funding and insufficient support from stakeholders
Lack of joint working
Inadequate cost analysis and business planning
Lack of corporate identity
Poor risk assessment
Lack of leadership and skills

Description

Learning point exploring sustainable placemaking covering tips for project management, partnership working and engaging stakeholders as well as the community.

Approach

SCR organised a masterclass on sustainable placemaking for a variety of participants. A senior representative from the build environment field - Ben Derbyshire, chair of the Placemaking Forum - led the masterclass.

The learning point was compiled from discussions, what questions participants hoped to have answered and what useful working principles emerged.
