Improving bus services - UK

Introduction
The report provides an overview of the role of Passenger Transport Executives in improving bus services in the United Kingdom, what has been achieved and what is still to be done.
Description
The report highlights the ways in which Passenger Transport Executives (PTEs) provide the superstructure for the bus industry and the role the bus needs to play in reducing traffic congestion. It provides an overview of some of the initiatives in which PTEs and local operators have worked together to deliver major initiatives to improve the quality and reliability of bus services. It also details how PTEs fill gaps in bus networks, and the improvements to bus stations and shelters that have been carried out. The role of new technologies in the bus service is looked at as well.  Through flexible services and concessions the bus service can tackle exclusion. The report discusses initiatives designed to improve passenger safety and to increase communication with passengers.
