Pride in Camphill

Introduction
This case study is a living model of major built environment change running hand-in-hand with social and economic renewal. It demonstrates innovation in dealing with estate change.
Problem
Resident consultation initially received a mixed response; although there was a culture of collective unionised action in the area there was no culture of volunteerism or serving individual needs.
Description
This case study describes a range of innovative approaches taken to regeneration by Pride in Camphill; a ten year redevelopment scheme for a fifty hectare housing estate, populating 5000 people in Nuneaton. In particular, it looks at how Pride in Camphill boosted community involvement in consultation.
Approach
The Pride in Camphill team changed the consultation in order to the needs of residents. They now run a Community Hub to directly link residents to the community board of the project. In addition the Camphill Community Office is run on a drop in basis.
Annual Reports on the development of the programme are structured for residents to clearly see how their concerns were addressed. They also publicise plans at Camphill public fun-days, and they publish "Camphill News".
Results
The main results were greater engagement from local residents in the process of regeneration in Camphill. Pride in Camphill learnt that to engage with the community effectively means tailoring the process to their needs. There needs to be ongoing range of approaches to catch everybody.
Beneficiaries
Residents of Camphill.
Resources used
Important resources included the establishment of a Community Hub and the capacity to run the Community Office on a drop-in basis.
