Spaces and buildings that deliver the best possible value: a handbook - UK

Introduction
Aimed at senior staff in local authorities, this handbook explains how improving the built environment can contribute to enhancing performance and meeting targets.
Description
The handbook explains how the procurement process can help future building projects deliver the best possible value. It brings together evidence about the benefits of good design, and demonstrates how understanding the different types of value created by the built environment is the key to realising its full potential. It highlights the positive effects that a well-designed built environment can have on both people and the economy, and outlines the different types of value delivered by the built environment and their importance to stakeholders.
The guidance also shows how the quality of the built environment relates to the policy framework established by comprehensive performance assessment, public service agreements, local strategic partnerships, and the Beacon scheme. The handbook is divided into four parts entitled:
  • What can you do?
  • Types of value
  • Are you achieving value?
  • The policy context
