Sustainable communities: people, places and prosperity - UK

Introduction
Describes a five year plan for the next phase in delivering the government’s Sustainable Communities Plan, specifically setting out actions to revitalise neighbourhoods, strengthen local leadership, and increase regional prosperity.
Description
Outlines the government’s plans to help people shape their communities to provide safe, clean and green environments and offer security, opportunity and choice for all, building on two key principles:
  • putting people in control and giving them the tools to shape their future;
  • acting at the right level, with good governance and strong leadership, to get services right.
Explains how the government intends to give communities more power to influence the decisions that affect them, and to improve delivery mechanisms. Describes the successes of the Sustainable Communities Plan and identifies the challenges that remain.
Details the plans for increasing community engagement and neighbourhood participation, strengthening local leadership, tackling disadvantage, and ensuring the benefits of prosperity are shared between regions.
Explains how the strategy is to be delivered, including the role of the Government Offices.
