News
In early 2009 the Commission will launch a monitoring system that will link
all currently funded FP7 projects to the priorities of the EU Sustainable
Development Strategy. Background information and tender are available
here.
There will also be a Commission conference "Sustainable Development: A Challenge
for European Research" on 26-28 May 2009, in Brussels. A
call for papers
is open until January 2009.

The recent URBAN-NET Stakeholder Workshop, "Future research areas
on Urban Sustainability in Europe", held in Berlin, was a great success.

Sustainable Cities - European Commission Policy Summaries;
"The climate change imperative has put the spotlight on Europe's
cities, which are home to 80% of Europeans and consume a disproportionate share
of natural resources relative to their surface area". Read more

UN-HABITAT have launched a new website for their Global Report on
Human Settlements (GRHS) series. The
website
contains downloadable copies of all issues of the GRHS since 1986, most of
which are also searchable.
Scotland
influences European urban research priorities. This article about
URBAN-NET appeared in the Summer issue of the Scottish Urban
Regeneration Forum newsletter.

The Academy for Sustainable Communities has recently
published
Mind
the Skills Gap, a report which assesses the gaps in the skills required to
deliver the UK Sustainable Communities Programme.
'Europe's
environment - The fourth assessment' is the latest in a series of
reports published over the last 15 years by the European Environment Agency.
'Towards
a new culture for urban mobility' is the European Commission's new Green
Paper on urban transport which was adopted on 25 September 2007. Citizens and
stakeholders are invited to share their views on the Green Paper with the
Commission until 15 March 2008.
